The Icon, The irreverence Gayatri Devi!
The Icon, The irreverence Gayatri Devi!
From the Memoirs of the Queen, herself! an enchanted spell in creating life beyond the persona of a princess!
Many Queens ruled the world, many queens have ruled the hearts as well one such personality of the modern Colonial India is Maharani Gayatri Devi, a name that has truly enliven the passion of dressing, art and style.
For someone who was born in the conservative yet modernized period it was quite effervescent she changed the phenomenon of 'Purdah' the covering. Her memoir 'A Princess Remembers' is her personal reflection on life, fashion, India and most importantly her advocacy for young girls education in India.
When they say 'Beauty with Brains' sach hi hai!
Someone as graceful as her ruling the fashion of India back then, I wish I could have been born in that era and witness her magic through my eyes. Indeed, she was the definition of style & grace.
But how and why her style was so celebrated, was it because there was no other queen as remarkable as her? or the opulence she had was unmatched during that time nor was the beauty but here strong virtues, her strong personality made here style more influential during their reign. Many even called her the 'Diana of India' but I'll stick to Gayatri Devi of India.
Interestingly chiffon sarees were made popular by her mother who was the first one to wear chiffon sarees other than Indian textiles, Gayatri Devi's style was mostly driven from her mother, her grandmother who quite gave her the knowledge of colors, maybe the royals were blessed not only with privilege of comfort but style & art, too.
Her personal style statement included her sheer chiffon sarees, small Bindi, dark red lipstick occasionally, her shoulder length hair, big piece of emeralds, or other neck jewels. Her love for gold embroidery, zari work, Gotta-patti and pearl embroidery! indeed nothing can be more classic and regal than this.We look up to celebrities and social media for our daily dose of fashion, but these Maharanis and Rajkumaris are the true style icons of their times. She is the definition of what royal elegance and minimal fashion can be, I mean look at the simplistic, classic, and elegant side of imperial Indian fashion.
There is more to her fashion, her eternal style and her grace, it's time you look at her fashion and iconic memoir! Our very own Indian princess diaries!
My all time favourite and an inspiration i always look up to. No doubt she was an epitome of beauty and grace 🙏❤️
